The next royal lady to be featured is Princess Sofia of Sweden.
Princess Sofia is the newest addition to the Swedish royal family. Sofia Kristina Hellqvist was born on 6 December 1984. She has an older sister, Lina, and a younger sister, Sara.
Sofia Hellqvist attended Älvdalen Montessori School and Älvdal School. She studied the arts programme at Vansbro Education Centre, specialising in music. Sofia has had a number of summer jobs, including working at a sports shop, as a waitress and in a plastics factory. Since her teenage years, she has visited and worked as a volunteer and aid worker in South Africa, Senegal and Ghana.
In 2005, Sofia began studying accounting, specialising in business development, at the New York Institute of English and Business. Sofia is also a certified yoga instructor, which she trained for in New York. She worked as a yoga instructor at Yoga to the People, New York.
Sofia has also studied courses at Stockholm University in global ethics, child and youth studies, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in theory and Swedish practice, and gender and international relations, totalling 22.5 credits.
In 2010, Hellqvist along with Frida Vesterberg co-founded “Project Playground“, a charity that assists underprivileged children in South Africa. She starred in a documentary with Swedish network SVT, speaking about her charitable projects. Princess Sofia remained as Secretary-General until April 2015. Since then, she has played an active role as Project Playground’s Honorary Chairman.
Her relationship with Prince Carl Philip was confirmed in 2010. In 2011, when Sofia and Carl Philip moved in together in the upmarket area of Djurgården, Stockholm.
On 27 June 2014, it was announced that Sofia and Prince Carl Philip were engaged. The couple married in the Royal Chapel at the Royal Palace of Stockholm on 13 June 2015.
Their son, Prince Alexander, was born on 19 April 2016.
The reason why I’ve said in my previous post that Princess Sofia has received a lot of hate throughout her relationship with Carl Philip, is because she used to be a glamour model and a reality star. She has never denied her past- she actually embraces it, which is admirable if you ask me. It was definitely not easy for her to be accepted by the public as a princess, but she’s never been anything but gracious.
Sofia previously said in a documentary entitled The Year with the Royal Family:
“A lot has been written over the years, not only following our engagement. For me it’s pretty boring, it happened ten years ago and I’ve moved on with my life. But no regrets, experience shapes a person.”
